When the MINI Countryman was first introduced into the world back in 2010, some people just didn’t get it. Even the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed claiming the designers had lost sight of what MINI fans love about the brand. A few folks even denounced it outright, saying it would sell mediocre numbers and quickly be relegated to the ever-growing heap of discontinued models.
As is often the case, the critics had it wrong. The Countryman took the compact crossover world by storm, and it’s become one of MINI’s best sellers of all time.
MINI isn’t resting on its laurels, though. They’re committed to continuing to evolve and improve the Countryman, and in that spirit, they’ve announced not one, not two, but three all-new MINI editions for the 2025 model year.
The 2025 MINI Countryman S ALL4
The fan favorite Countryman has been totally redone, and now officially enters its third generation this year.
Despite its miniature DNA, the new Countryman is now larger than ever before, with a length increase of over five inches, and two inches more height, guaranteeing ample room for both passengers and cargo. It now has a total rear capacity of around 51 cubic feet, and the rear row folds down at a 40:20:40 ratio, which enables multiple seating and storage configurations.
The MINI marquee has always been prized for its zippy and responsive handling, and to ensure a fun ride, the minds behind the machine have optimized the Countryman’s drag coefficient, which is a fancy way to say it catches less wind resistance and accelerates faster. Selectable go-kart mode kicks things up a notch for an especially sporty ride.
The new Countryman receives significantly more power as well—preliminary estimates say that the four-cylinder engine now puts out 241 ponies and 295 pound-feet of torque. Towing capacity is slated to be a whopping 3,500 pounds. The ALL4 intelligent all-wheel drive provides another significant boost to driving prowess, and it enables the Countryman to tread where other compact SUVs can’t. McPherson front suspension and optional selective dampers make it a bona fide rough terrain legend. New tire and wheel combos are also available.
Inside, it’s one of the most tech-forward MINIs yet devised. The one-of-a-kind circular infotainment setup has been upgraded to measure 9.4 inches across, and it’s powered by the new MINI Operating System 9, which interfaces with both touch and voice commands. It also features multiple different MINI Experience Modes, which alters the interior lighting and ambient sounds to perfectly suit the driver’s preferred vibe. And, for the first time, it boasts optional semi-automated driving on select highways.
The new MINI Countryman S release date is scheduled for spring of 2024.
The 2025 MINI John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4
While some don’t consider it to be an entirely different model, we thought the almighty JCW Countryman deserved some fanfare all on its own.
The John Cooper Works MINI is instantly recognizable by its black, white, and Chili Red color scheme, as well as the trademark JCW logo, which has been updated for the new generation. Unique design features abound, promising you won’t forget that you’re driving the fastest MINI on the market.
The new JCW model gets a retooled turbo 2.0-liter engine, which now achieves 312 horsepower and does a zero-to-sixty run in 5.4 seconds. Like the standard S model, the exterior has been streamlined to ensure minimum drag and enhance performance when you step on the gas. JCW models also benefit from a number of race-ready components, like high-performance brakes and reinforced engine mounts.
Like the Countryman S, the John Cooper Works edition includes the voice-activated MINI Personal Assistant, intelligent semi self-driving, adjustable interior ambiance, and larger proportions. The new John Cooper Works Countryman release date is scheduled for spring of 2024.
The 2025 Electric MINI Countryman SE ALL4
MINI has been dabbling in the world of electric compact SUVs for a while now, and they’re finally almost ready to release the long-awaited Countryman EV.
Whenever a new electric model is released, the battery capacity is always first thing on everyone’s minds. The Countryman SE promises the most updated charging technology, capable of 130-kilowatt DC fast charging, which can add 80% juice to the battery in just half an hour. It gets an estimated total range of 245 miles, topping the former electric MINI personal best by a wide margin. This represents the logical continuation of the previous-gen SE model, which features a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The electric ALL4 system is made up of two robust motors at each axle, which put out a combined 313 horsies and 363 pound-feet of torque, and this can be cranked up even further with a temporary boost setting. Near instantaneous acceleration from the electric powertrain allow it to get up to sixty in just 5.6 seconds from a full stop. The Countryman SE is engineered to preserve the iconic MINI driving manner without sacrificing efficiency.
Much like the JCW version, the SE comes with its own design cues, including model-specific colors and windmill-inspired wheels, which are machine sculpted for optimal aerodynamic performance.
The SE also retains the overall vibe of the new Countryman line, which prioritizes elegant minimalism. All of the major comfort and convenience features like Personal Assistant, Experience Modes, and 9.4-inch HD infotainment display are part of the package. We may not have seen it in person yet, but we’re confident that this will be the best electric MINI to date.
The new MINI Countryman SE release date is scheduled for fall of 2024.
