2025 MINI Cooper S 2 Door

March was a big month for MINI. Not only did it mark the modern brand’s 22nd anniversary in the States, but they unveiled a totally refreshed and redesigned MINI Cooper Hardtop 2-Door for the 2025 model year.

The Cooper 2-Door is the most iconic of all, and according to MINI, the incoming new generation marks the beginning of “the most significant transformation for the brand since the very first Mini was launched 65 years ago.” It all begins with the MINI Cooper S.

So, how has the Cooper S been updated? Let’s check out all the exciting details.

Driving Fun

For 2025, the Cooper S gets an updated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which now puts out an increased 221 pound-feet of torque, and creates 201 horsepower at 5000 RPM. That extra oomph allows it to get up from zero to sixty in about 6 seconds, a subtle but significant speed boost that’s sure to make it that much more fun to scoot around in. The engine is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission; it’s still unclear whether a manual option will be available, but we can sure hope.

When designing a new MINI, the prime directive is to preserve the trademark go-kart drive feel. To ensure the 2025 Cooper S is as go-karty as ever, it’s designed with a suspension damping system for nimble handling.

Dashing Good Looks

In creating the all-new MINI, the designers sought to give a nod to the classic Mini aesthetic of the ‘60s and ‘70s. They did this by prioritizing an elegant minimalism inside and out.

From the exterior, the changes are immediately apparent. For one, it’s less busy. Gone are the vents on the hood and fenders, replaced with smooth sheets of metal and fiberglass. The hood itself also receives some new contours to soften its appearance, and the nose has been simplified with a new grille shape. The rear profile has been given the same treatment, plus a new rear hatch trim that spans the length of the door, and triangular taillights that complement the Union Jack theme. The rear bumper and quarter panels also receive straighter lines. The overall effect is understated—it’s still unmistakably a MINI, after all—but the difference is palpable.

Available colors for the 2025 Cooper S include Chili Red, Sunny Side Yellow, British Racing Green, Ocean Wave Green, Blazing Blue, Melting Silver, Nanuq White, and Midnight Black.

By far one of our favorite features that carries on from the previous generation is the available Multitone Roof, which features a gradient of three different colors for an almost psychedelic effect, which looks absolutely awesome when you see it zipping by at high speed.

Slick Style and Tech

Inside, the minimalist trend continues with an almost shockingly simple dashboard, which is said to be made of up to 90% recyclable materials. As expected, the unique 9.4-inch circular infotainment OLED screen is mounted front and center, and it runs the latest MINI Operating System 9 for a seamless, lag-free experience.

Most of the physical controls are mounted to the steering wheel, but there’s also a retro-futuristic oval-shaped panel that houses the miniature gear shifter and customizable MINI Experience Modes setting. This optional feature utilizes two internal projectors to shoot images directly onto the dashboard for an interesting bit of extra flair inside the cockpit.

Mega-Mini Space

The updated MINI Cooper S benefits from some tweaks that have been implemented to get the absolute most out of the interior space for both passengers and cargo without wasting an inch. Check out the 2025 Cooper S interior dimensions:

Head room (front/rear)

40.3 in / 36.9 in

Shoulder room (front/rear)

51.2 in / 49.1 in

Leg room (front rear)

41.4 in / 30.8 in

Cargo volume (seats up/seats down)

8.9 cu ft / 34.4 cu ft

While the head and leg measurements from the previous iteration remain nearly identical, side-to-side room has been significantly expanded, and the total cargo real estate has grown thanks to some small but mighty shifts in design.
